Bellefontaine football standout Jack Varner recently signed his letter of intent with Division III Wittenberg University in Springfield.

The senior guard anchored the Chiefs’ offensive line last fall and was a three-year starter for BHS. He was the Chiefs’ starting center in ’21 & ’22.

Varner also started at defensive tackle in ’23.

Jack was a vocal team leader who shared his passion for Chieftain football.

Varner chose Wittenberg after multiple visits to the campus.

He added, “I chose the school because of its strong academics, winning tradition, and a chance to compete at the college level.”

Varner also considered Ohio Northern University, Ohio Wesleyan University, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Wilmington College.

Varner was named Second Team CBC and Second Team All-District last fall.

He was a key contributor on the first team in school history to win three playoff games in the same season. The Chiefs advanced to the Division III regional final in November.

Varner has maintained a 3.4 grade point average at BHS.

He plans on studying education at Wittenberg. He will play center or guard for the Tigers.

His goals are to become a high school intervention teacher and football coach.
